WORK-LIFE
HARMONY
Introduction
Equilibrium
may be a physical state of balance or a calm state of mind. In Physics, in
simple terms, it means that motion of objects in equilibrium will not change
with time and they will also keep the same amount of energy. With reference to
work-life balance it is the equal prioritization of worldly (career,
profession, business etc.) demands and demands of personal life. Generally, it
is feeling of fulfillment of your personal as well as professional life.
If
one reads my blogs it can be easily observed that I am a family oriented guy.
Though I was a work centered person, yet took care of family and relationships.
My only fault was that I tried to produce more at work at the cost of my
health, which now I repent very much.
(a)-
There are no set rules for work-life balance. Further, same rules cannot be
applied for everyone. No one else will be bothered about you. It is you who
have to manage the balance. You have to take responsibility of reducing work
related stress and keeping general well being of self and family. In my view,
work-life balance concept is self defined and self determined. You have to make
your time and energy for a harmonious relationship between professional and
personal life.
(b)-
To achieve work life balance we will have to prioritize health. Unplug yourself
for some time in a day even from your family and friends and be in solitude to
practice meditation or reading. Take time off from work to recharge you. Avoid
burnout at work place and set limits of working hours. Saying is one thing and
doing is another. Your doing determines what is your priority.
(c)-
Work life balance is not an achievement of a day, but results over a period of
time. Balance does not every time mean equality. Depending upon the work
situation, sometimes you may have to devote more time for your work than the
family.
Organizational trend
In
the recent Ford trend survey of 2024, 68 % (world 52%) of Indians are ready to
cut their salaries up to 20% for their health. The working class says that
balancing in individual life is more important than promotion in career. It is
also said that Artificial intelligence will facilitate in maintaining work life
balance. According to “women inc HR Managers survey” 34 % women leave the job
for work-life balance, while this data for men is only 4%.
To
facilitate healthy work-life balance so as to provide motivation for the
employees to stick to the current job, some organizations provide:-
-
Flexible office hours, instead of usual
rat race hours.
-
Work from home once/twice a week.
-
Trained professionals for child care and
parents support
Myths and facts
(x)-
Working tirelessly will not make you more productive and effective. Your professional
and personal life will grow when you are relaxed.
(y)-
People who derive everything from their work and are at the peak of it; they
are not aware or realize it too late that they are at the nadir in all other
areas of life.
(z)-
People get so much consumed by their profession or work that they neglect not
only personal health but the most important relationships.

will bounce back. The other four balls—family, health, friends, and
integrity—are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be

Yes, agreed, extream of anything is always bad. One has to make Balance in every field of life, just like, we make Balance while riding a bicycle and reach at destination desired 🌹
ReplyDeleteHuman mind is like a pendulam which oscillates between extremes. If not jumping there, it is always wavering, indecisive, unstable and doubtful. It is very difficult to give equal weightage to both sides of the scale of life- i.e.work life { job, livelihood, career etc.} on the one hand and pursuit of personal interests, hobbies and cementing of bonds of family and friendship. You rightly said that equality is not measured in terms of quantity of inputs like time, resources etc. deployed to each part, but quality of outcome and the peace, calmness and inner satisfaction derived out of it.
ReplyDeleteThis ' equality' may be physical and outwardly. You have given useful tips to achieve this. Still more important is achieving the 'equanimity' of mind.

The recent tragic death of a young woman CA workking in a reputed multinational company known for its corporate governance has turned the spotlight on work -life balance issue. But the question is- Is it possible ?A recent survey shows that more than half of Indian employed population, about 51%, spends over 49 hours per week securing the country's position second globally for extended working hours against a relaxed of 35 -40 hours per week in advanced European countries. This difference can be understood easily. There are times of great revival in the nation and demanding work environment is an inescapable reality. This is the reality of challenge, opportunities and rewards of the time and State can do little to regulate the modern workplace. Through this transitional period of our nation, long working hours cannot be avoided. But the solution lies in counternbalance.
ReplyDeleteA cursory look on our unwinding practices reveals that our activities are contrary. If job brings stress we should engage in things that counteract it.Binge watching movies on mobile phone ,binge drinking, binge shopping , binge eating or hitting the gym in vengeance are not solutions and these activities on the contrary hamper recovery. The mind has to take a meaningful break - a psychological detachment from work. The methods suggested for this include meditation ,contemplation, reading books which connect us to Divine, periodic visits to the places which leads to disengagement from work etc.The key is to engage the mind and train it to stay engaged.
Quality in work depends on how one take care of his mental and body hralth, which is possible through observing equiblirium. So the post is a good remonder for every one.
ReplyDeleteThese serve as a powerful reminder to consciously cultivate a balanced life. They urge us to prioritize our well-being and relationships, recognizing that true fulfillment lies not in relentless pursuit of professional success alone, but in nurturing the fragile and irreplaceable aspects of our lives.
